Subject: 07-01-02 NAC NEWS From: PatBond Northport Arts Coalition News June 28, 2002 N.A.C. proudly presents the first Doing Music series on Wednesday, July 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the Northport Library Community room. Among those featured will be the Wellwood Ensemble playing Bartok and some early music on guitar and recorder. Tara Kavanagh will perform the "Shepherd on the Rock," a trio for voice, clarinet, and piano, with Betty Caserta and Jess Gross. Isabella Eredita and Katherine Juliano will perform the Vivaldi Sonata in A for violin and piano. These and other talents will provide an evening you won't forget. We would like to thank the Library for the use of their community room. We now have over 80 dues paying members. We invite you to join us. Annual dues are $10. You need to be a dues-paying member to be eligible to vote. We will also take nominations from the floor in September. Nominees must be dues paying and have attended at least three NAC events. We would like to hear from any of you who are interested in participating in our activities and contributing ideas to our programs. Since many of you cannot make a full-time commitment to us because of time restraints, we are asking for people who would serve on an advisory council that would meet on occasion and brainstorm, talk about future programs, fund raising activities, and help us broaden our scope in the area of arts in our community. If you are interested and willing to participate, please contact Charlotte Koons at 261-8590 George Wallace, vice president of The Long Island Poetry Collective is pleased to announce that the Suffolk County Legislature has approved the establishment of the position of Suffolk County Poet Laureate. Details to follow. NAC members B.J. Cassidy and Kate Kelly participated in the production of a CD to be released this Fall (with cover art by Kate Kelly,) featuring poetry that reflects Jack Kerouac's continuing influence on new generations of writers. The musician David Amram participated in the recording session organized by George Wallace. Upcoming and Ongoing The Northport Chamber of Commerce will be holding Happenings on Main Street every Friday during the summer from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Happenings on Main Street will feature musicians who will perform at different locations throughout Northport Village. On Friday June 28 OSQ will perform jazz music on Main Street- the location to be announced. Stop in and see your neighbors' artwork. - Do-Art - this exhibit at the Northport Historical Museum on Main Street will run until August 18th - The Long Island Shakespeare Festival - Shea Theater, Suffolk Community College (Selden Campus) beginning July 13th "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Macbeth" will be featured plays.
