Subject: NAC NEWS - March Date: Sun, 02 Mar 2003 19:55:44 -0500 From: PatBond NAC NEWS – March 2, 2003 02-12-03 - Gene Keyes joined by Isabella Eredita presented a delightful concert. Despite the inclement weather, a sizable audience enjoyed the works of Paul Jeanjean, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Camille Saint-Saens, and contemporary composer Witold Lutoslawski. The clarinet and piano filled the room with the remarkable pleasure of live music played by virtuosos. Gene Keyes also displayed his stunning photographs of birds. And we closed with some poetry read by Charlotte Koons. We continue to be blessed with truly gifted performers. On Wednesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Northport Library Community room the Long Island Poetry Collective will be presenting a poetry reading and will then ask for readings from the audience. Beverly Smith, the chairperson, will talk about their history, activities, publications (XANADU and PROCESS). Poetry lovers, listeners, and writers should find this a gratifying and informative evening. George Wallace, a NAC member edits their newsletter "POETIMES. Tomorrow evening, March 3, 2003 you are invited to a staged reading of Aristophane’s Lysistrata in the Huntington Cinema Arts Center Sky room at 7:30. This will be an "adult"performance, the word "bawdy" comes to mind. Several NAC members will be performing, among them: Jeff Bennett, James Friel, Ghislaine Grillo, Ben Intonato, Kate Kelly, Charlotte Koons. Tomorrow over 1000 readings of the play staged in 56 countries around the globe and in all 50 states. Donation $4.00 For example, did you know that NAC member Elsa Posey is celebrating the 50th year of the Posey School? If you haven’t lost it, check out the February 24th issue of Newsday for the details. The present art exhibit at the Village Hall has been held over due to its popularity. The new NAC exhibit "On the Horizon" is scheduled to open Sunday, March 23, 4-6pm. Entries can be delivered to the Village Hall on Saturday, March 22, between 11am and 1 pm.. Entry forms are available at the Northport Historical Museum and the Northport Library. NAC needs volunteers to help with receiving artwork and with help at the reception on Sunday the 23rd. Please let us know if you can spare some time to make this art available to the community. Details will be coming. Poets Kate Kelly and Charles Fishman, with musician Brian Sendrowitz, will be at the Huntington Poetry Barn, High Street and New York Avenue, Friday, April 18, at 8 pm. The Northport Chorale will be joined by NAC on May 9th in a concert, art exhibit, and poetry reading at the Northport High School. Birnham Wood Graphics announces the publication of ON MAXWELL STREET, a new collection of recent poems by Kate Kelly. 28 pp. 20 poems. List price $8.50. This book is one of a new series of chapbooks from the Poetrybay Monograph Series 2003.
