MAY 2006

NAC EVENTS

The Northport Arts Coalition has reorganized: Lauren Paige, chairperson, Pat Bond; vice chair and acting treasurer, Terry Lister; corresponding secretary, Tara Kavangh; secretary , and Charlotte Koons; board member.  We are all very excited to meet new challenges as NAC continues to grow and thrive in the community. We now have over 260 members and email our NAC Newsletter out to over 1000 people all over Long Island.

To the membership from Isabella, from our retiring chairperson:: NAC is going through a lot of change! I have resigned as the NAC Chairperson, after serving as board Member for 2 years, co-chairman for 2 years, and chairperson for 4 years. I have seen the organization through its inception to its current state. Growing pains can be somewhat challenging, yet NAC is strong and fully equipped to continue with excellent programs and community service to artists.

<>I am extremely proud of NAC's growth---we have expanded our membership to almost 300, and our programs are numerous and wide reaching. I will continue being a very helpful member of the organization, and encourage each and every one of you to contribute your part in assisting the Northport Arts Coalition in its future growth. Get involved!  The Red Hat Ladies join me in the Dance!”

NORTHPORT THEATER EVENTS

After the success of the Theater's first production, BROOKLYN BOY in March, the Northport Theater for the Performing Arts is once again offering a first rate quality show, THE LION IN WINTER, set to debut on Thursday, April 27th at 8 pm. Produced by Authors' Playhouse, the show is an historical drama made famous by the movie version starring Peter O’Toole as Henry II, King of England and Katherine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine. You won’t want to miss THE LION IN WINTER performed at the Northport Theater for the Performing Arts on Friday evening,   May 5, and     Sunday afternoon, May 7th Just when you thought a mother’s love was sacrosanct and the foundation of our American Pie society, come on in and get a good dose of Eleanor of Aquitaine in the play made famous by Peter O’Toole and Katherine Hepburn in the movie version out in 1968.

The play should be listed in the dictionary under "conditional love." Behave my son and daddy will give you the kingdom, and so the play moves fairly rapidly and smoothly. The conflict arises from Henry’s intention to pass over his eldest son, Richard, and his middle son, Geoffrey, and install as his successor the youngest and easily the least admirable and capable John. What follows is a joy to watch as each of the family plots against the rest; son against father, brother against brother and wife against husband. The cast includes Jean Hipskind, Bill Casalino, Jack West, Michael Kenney, Matt Pappadia, Tom McIntyre and Lucia Curatolo.  Produced by the Authors’ Playhouse, written by James Goldman, directed by Marcalan Glassberg. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $18 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.authorsplayhouse.org    or call  1-866-811-4111. For further information, visit the website, www.AuthorsPlayhouse.net or www.NorthportTheater.org or call the box office at 631-261-2900
